More Snow

A few days ago a big storm front rolled over the South Island, covering the greater Queenstown area with several inches of thick heavy snow. Apparently it is fairly uncommon to get snow as low down as the lake and the city, and it was quite beautiful. The roads were very sloppy, with cars sliding all over the place, and they were actually forced to close down both ski resorts. I spent the morning making a snowman on the back porch with Pip and Geoff (Andrew still had to go to work). Geoff and I were actually planning to make it a "snow-hermaphrodite", but Pip wouldn't let us do any detailed anatomical features. This storm added some much-needed coverage to the local ski fields. In fact, "The Remarkables" resort was able to start running another chairlift this week, opening up a huge new area of terrain. Hooray for Snow!
